The original Knights of Columbus Drill Manual was developed by Sir Knights in the Calvert Province in conjunction with the Supreme Master. The newest version which was approved by the Supreme Board of Directors on February 2, 2018 contains the basic information for attire, movements, and commands for Sir Knights when they turn out for events. As always, Sir Knights are encouraged to always be in touch with the Celebrant or Master of Ceremonies for Liturgical Events.
All Sir Knights who wish to appear in regalia are strongly encouraged to obtain and study a copy of the Fourth Degree Color Corps Manual, which can be viewed here or downloaded directly here. Physical copies of the Drill Manual are available for order by Faithful Navigators and Faithful Comptrollers from the supply catalog and the Supplies Online store accessed through the Officers Online Portal. The new Drill Manual supply catalog number is 808 1-18.
If you have any questions, please contact your local Color Corps Commander, or the District Marshal.
As always, when there are any concerns, remember the Color Corps' unofficial motto: SEMPER GUMBY!
The Earl S. Thorne Memorial Color Guard team are called into service for events throughout the Archdiocese and beyond. This group of Sir Knights, selected for their marching and maneuvering capabilities, is comprised of Sir Knights from many of the Assemblies in the District. This elite group has been honored by carrying the Colors for the US Supreme Court at the annual Red Mass, before the Vice President and military dignitaries at the AMS Memorial Mass, as well as marching in parades and presenting the Colors at Washington Nationals games. It is currently commanded by SK Mike Davenport, and the Assistant Commander is SK Bob Sistare.
When knighthood was in flower, knights carried the sword to defend their God, their Church, their country, and their fellow man according to the code of chivalry. Today, Sir Knights wear regalia and carry the sword to honor Christ and His apostles, especially on religious and civic occasions specified in the Color Corps manual. Hence, the primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to encourage active Catholic citizenship and foster the spirit of patriotism in members and the community at large.
The Color Corps members exemplify all the principles of our Order:
The public appearance of Fourth Degree Knights as a Color Corps at religious and civic functions is an important activity of each assembly. Their colorful capes and chapeaux add dignity and the pride of Church and country to any event. By these public demonstrations their loyalties bring credit to themselves and to the Knights of Columbus.
